"A" has been evicted from the homeless shelter and program. He claims it's because he let it slip that he was looking into getting grants to pay for college and getting money there to live off of (even though he won't get any)...
But the "reason" they gave him was because he had a confrontation (discussion in his words) with the minister at the shelter who was teaching a class and was explaining to the students how to beat children without leaving any marks.
I agree that I would have a hard time sitting through any type of discussion like that. I'm not 100% sure I believe him when he describes it to me (shouldn't be - there are a lot of people out there who take spare the rod, spoil the child mentality to the extreme).
But, I also know that you don't tick off the people giving you free room and board and trying to help you get on your feet - which he did.
But, another program is willing to pay 3 to 6 months of the cost (a few dollars a day) to live at the Y. And, he's loving it there. I couldn't convince him after two years of suggesting he go live there... but he does love it. He's getting free meals at another shelter... he's got a free place to live. He's got a free bus pass to get around.
Now, if he'd just get a job so that in 3 to 6 months - when this program runs out -- he's got enough money to do something for himself. We'll see.
I'm upset with him for not sticking with the program at the first place. They were going to provide him with opportunities and training for skills for working. They were going to help him work for a full year with virtually no expenses and he blew it. Ah well. At least he's got a roof over his head now.
